I do not offer all of these classes every school year.  It comes down to numbers and what the students want for classes that school year.  But these are often the classes that students get to chose from year to year.

Accounting

Accounting is planning, recording, analyzing, and interpreting financial information. Accounting is the language of business. Many individuals in a business complete accounting forms and prepare accounting reports. This course is generally for Juniors and Seniors. This course earns 1 credit.  You can also earn 3 college credits through SUNY Cobleskill.

Microcomputer
Applications

Microcomputer Applications will be an introduction for first time users.  Students will become familiar with computer terminology, hardware, operating system and Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.  This course earns 1 credit.  You can also earn 3 college credits through SUNY Cobleskill.

Sport Marketing

Sports and Entertainment Marketing focuses on marketing and management functions/tasks that can be applied in amateur or professional sports or sporting events, entertainment or entertainment events, selling or renting of supplies and equipment (other than vehicles) used for recreational or sporting purposes, products and services related to hobbies or cultural events, or businesses primarily engaged in satisfying the desire to make productive or enjoyable use of leisure time.

Computer Science

Computer Science Essentials (CSE)

Computer Science Essentials (CSE) is designed to be a full-year (180-day) course implemented in the 9th grade. This course is an excellent entry point for new high school computer science (CS) learners. And students who have prior CS experiences will find ample opportunity to expand upon those experiences in this course. All students who take CSE will have many opportunities for creative expression and exploration in topics of personal interest, whether it be through app development, web design, or connecting computing with the physical world.

PLTW CSE introduces students to coding fundamentals through an approachable, block-based programming language where they will have early success in creating usable apps. As students sharpen their computational thinking skills, they will transition to programming environments that reinforce coding fundamentals by displaying block programming and text based programming side-by-side. Finally, students will learn the power of text-based programming as they are introduced to the Python® programming language.

Computer Science Principles (CSP)

PLTW’s Computer Science Principles is a full-year course recommended for students in grades 10–12. The course aligns to CSTA Level 3B Objectives, ISTE Standards, and the K–12 CS Framework. Additionally, PLTW courses are designed to prepare students to thrive in college, careers, and beyond. As a result, many students choose to take AP exams to demonstrate the knowledge and skills they’ve gained to colleges and universities.

In Computer Science Principles, students develop the in-demand computer science skills critical to thrive in any of today’s and tomorrow’s careers. The course promotes computational thinking and coding fundamentals and introduces computational tools that foster creativity. It aims to build students’ awareness of the tremendous demand for computer scientists and those who have computational thinking skills, and engages students to consider issues raised by the impact of computing on society. Each unit also focuses on one or more computer science-specific career paths.

Cybersecurity

PLTW Cybersecurity is a full-year course implemented in 10th grade or above. The design of the course exposes high school students to the ever growing and far reaching field of cybersecurity. Students accomplish this through problem-based learning, where students role-play as cybersecurity experts and train as cybersecurity experts do. 

PLTW Cybersecurity gives students a broad exposure to the many aspects of digital and information security, while encouraging socially responsible choices and ethical behavior. It inspires algorithmic thinking, computational thinking, and especially, “outside-the-box” thinking. Students explore the many educational and career paths available to cybersecurity experts, as well as other careers that comprise the field of information security. The course contains the following units of study.
